Pharmacy Utilization Review

Our panel of experienced, credentialed, actively practicing physicians and pharmacists will review use of medications in the course of a patient’s medical care.  Improper medications can inhibit patient wellness, be dangerous and unnecessarily costly. Our Pharmacy Utilization Review team takes into consideration drug interactions, drug price, as well as utilization and appropriateness of medications within the scope of the treatment plan. Our team of qualified specialists and board-certified physicians make sure that the medications being prescribed are needed and providing a benefit to the course of treatment. We focus on the patient and the desired outcome while ensuring the right drug, in the right amount, is providing the intended treatment.  Our physicians can perform a peer-to-peer outreach to have a professional discussion with the treating provider in an attempt to come to a consensus on what may be an alternative, cost-effective approach including medication alternatives, frequency, dosage and/or a weaning program to address the patient’s medication needs. 

Our team of qualified specialists and board-certified physicians can address such issues as:

• Competitive medication alternatives - such as generics and multiple name brands – to determine whether it is feasible to move patients from more expensive brand drugs to less expensive versions
• Potential adverse drug interactions as a result of multiple prescribers or a combination of various classes of drugs
• Appropriate weaning programs (opiates, benzodiazepines, barbiturates, etc.)
• Case settlement set asides (WC/MVA/MC)
